The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious

Explore Jung's concepts of the archetypes and the collective unconscious in both their theoretical and practical applications.  In Jung's theory, man is not born a "tabula rasa" (blank slate) but rather he "possesses many things which he has never acquired but has inherited from his ancestors."  This significant statement is fundamental to his conception of the psyche and gives his work its distinction from other theories of depth psychology.  Class format will be readings, lecture, film, and discussion.  Required reading:  Jung's Map of the Soul, Murray Stein.  A packet of additional readings will be available in The Jung Center Bookstore.
